Welcome to Smartest Patient

I’m Courtney Bibo BA, AAS, RN. Currently, I am enrolled in the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program with a concentration in Rural Health. I cannot wait to become a provider in a family clinic someday! My current RN job is in corrections.

I started my academic career by receiving my Bachelor’s of psychology, followed by going to cosmetology school and opening a full-service salon. Then, after all of that, I went to nursing school. (I know, what a bizarre past, right?!) Adding this credential in here was important to me because you will see “Beauty” as a menu option. You may wonder what on Earth do I know about that! Rest assured I am a licensed a cosmetologist and spent years researching beauty products and their ingredients.

When I am not studying or working, I absolutely love cooking! It’s my artistic outlet, as my mother would put it. I enjoy meal planning, reading through recipes, and watching everything come together. Food is one of those things that goes hand-in-hand with our health. We know that what we eat makes a huge impact on our overall health and well-being. That’s why I wanted to include a “Recipes” section on this website. I can’t promise every recipe will be healthy for everyone, but I will offer options so people can modify the recipe, as needed. As for desserts…well…those are for our mental health, right? 🙂

I also love taking walks after dinner with my husband and sitting outside, studying or reading through recipes, while he mows the lawn 🙂

Enough About Me! What About the Site?

This website is designed with the patient in mind. There is loads of complicated information out there with confusing medical words that people just don’t get. Creating a place where the general population, people with no medical background, can come and learn about health care was important to me. I want to create a place where people can come to read information on current health topics and understand what they read. My goal is for people to leave here and not need to Google words I use.

The information on this website is evidence-based and grounded in science. Why is this important? Because using evidence-based practice results in better outcomes as well as helps to set national standards in patient care. In other words, it’s based on research and facts and not simply what I think is best. Above all, it’s proven to be safer for patients.

Feel free to use the “Contact” button to request topics you’re interested in. (The contact button is up top). Telling me what you want is important because this website is for you! Click here and start reading to become the Smartest Patient!
